We wouldn’t trust anyone else with our memories. Carly gives great direction, so even our most camera-shy and awkward moments turn out natural. She always finds the best lighting, and she notices every detail, down to making sure every strand of hair is in place. She makes each session feel fun all while juggling the chaos of parents trying to reel their children in when they’d much rather play in the sand! Having her capture our growing family over the years has been such a joy, and we treasure every photo.

Aloha, I’m Carly.
I grew up on Kauai and spent most of my childhood outside, frolicking in the ocean or hiking in the mountains above it, camera in tow. Later I spent two years with the Peace Corps in Kumba, Cameroon, farming cassava with some of the strongest women on the planet and teaching photography classes to the local photographers’ union. Now I live in San Diego, and I photograph families the way I remember my own: on the beach, in good light, with nowhere else to be.
My style is part photojournalist, part creative. Two years of living in a fishbowl taught me exactly what it feels like to be in the spotlight, so I keep the camera from becoming the main event. I let your family be your family, and I step in with a little direction when it’ll make a better picture. The result is a gallery that looks like you at your best.
